Capture the flavours of delicious summer fruit to enjoy them during the winter thanks to Paula’s homemade jam.


Pick some piece of fruit in your garden or buy ones that are gorged with sun at the local marketplace. Then, buy sugar for jam and food glass jars.

 

 

First, here are some tips for your jam jars:

 

Do not hesitate to pour your jam into glass jars of different sizes in order to be able to pick the jam jar that will perfectly fit to your needs.


This detail will allow you to adapt to any situations. If you plan to welcome a large number of guests, you’ll have large-size jam jars ; if you want to use your jam jars on a daily basis, to enjoy with your family, you can choose medium-size preserving jam jars ; otherwise, if you plan to offer your homemade jam to a person living alone or a couple, you can choose several small jam jars.


Paula will give you tips to realize successfully your own jams. The golden rule to undertake your homemade jam is patience: you have to macerate your fruit overnight in sugar.

 


Here is our receipe of the homemade plum jar:

 

Medium Cheap 2h 6 empty jam jars 

 

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 2 lbs (1 Kg) ripe plums
  • 28 oz sugar (specific sugar for jams preferred)
  • a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice
  • 6 medium-size jars


 

Receipe:

 

 

Wash plums under cool running tap water. Drain them. Separate the halves and remove the pits.

Place the plums in a large cooking pot, add sugar over them and let stand overnight.

 

 

Add a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice (in order to have pectin) and bring to the boil during 20 min, stirring constantly. With a skimmer, remove regularly the skim over the mixture.

 

 

Then, leave to simmer on a low heat during approximately 1 hour. Continue to remove the skim. To determine if jam is ready, put a drop of jam in a cold plate : the jam will be ready if the drop is not running on the plate.

 

 


Ladle into hot, sterilized food-grade glass jars
Close them straight away with their lids for jam jars. Turn the jam jars upside down (lids must be against the table).
After cooling, you can turn again your jam jars, label them and store them. Your sealed jam jars can be preserved approximately one year.
